National Resource Centers (NRC)-A U.S. Department of Education Program 

The Title VI National Resource Centers (NRC) program provides grants to establish, strengthen, and operate language and area or international studies centers that will be national resources for teaching any modern foreign language. Grants also support instruction in fields needed to provide a full understanding of the areas, regions, or countries where the languages are commonly used; research and training in international studies; language aspects of professional and other fields of study; and instruction and research on issues in world affairs. The NRC program is administered by the International and Foreign Language Education office of the U.S. Department of Education.

Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC)

Founded in 1981, the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) is a private nonprofit federation of independent overseas research centers (ORCs) that promotes advanced research, particularly in the humanities and social sciences, with a focus on the conservation and recording of cultural heritage and the understanding and interpretation of modern societies. CAORC fosters research projects across national boundaries, encourages collaborative research and programmatic and administrative coherence among member centers, and works to expand their resource base and service capacity.

GPA was created to assist and to encourage greater interaction among the many organizations and people who are engaged in international activity in the Greater Philadelphia Region, to promote the development of an international consciousness within the region and to enhance the region’s global profile. 

CAORC Faculty Development Seminars


For faculty and administrators at U.S. community colleges and minority-serving institutions. CAORC offers fully-funded overseas seminars that help faculty and administrators at US community colleges and minority-serving institutions gain international experience with the aim of developing and improving international courses, curricula, and teaching materials at their home institutions.
