Summer FLAS recipients must complete an intensive domestic or international program, equivalent to one academic year of language study.
-
At the advanced level: The session must be at least six weeks in duration and offer at least 120 contact hours of instruction.
-
At the beginning (graduate students only) or intermediate level: The session must be at least six weeks in duration and offer at least 140 contact hours of instruction.
The student should choose a summer language program and then apply for FLAS. You do not need to have applied for or been selected by your program at the time of your FLAS application however having done so or having a program in mind creates a much stronger application.
Below are some examples of summer programs past FLAS students have attended. Reference the webpages for further details such as eligibility requirements and application deadlines.
