Bangalore is the capital city of the Indian state of Karnataka in Southern India. It is sometimes referred to as the "Silicon Valley of India" because of its role as the nation's leading information technology exporter, and the "Garden City of India" because of its greenery and many public parks. Students staying in Bangalore will live in a demographically diverse city, home to educational and research institutions, a lively underground music scene, and a mix of restaurant types and cuisines.

Host Institution: India Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) is a research institution in the areas of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. ATREE focuses on applied science through research, education and action that influence policy and practice on conservation of nature, management of natural resources, and sustainable development. ATREE uses research-based findings to enable discussions on environmental policy decisions through creating forums for policy dialogues with communities, researchers and public groups; providing strategic environmental policy perspectives that improve governance and civic-state relations and serve the interests of the rural poor; helping to institutionalize actions aimed at strengthening civil society's commitment and involvement in conservation; assisting communities in the conservation of natural resources, particularly water resources and biological diversity; developing decentralized, inclusive models of co-management of natural resources.
