This event marks the inaugural session of the Maaya Movement Institute’s Maaya Meditations speaker series, Governance, Human Rights, and Democracy in the Aftermath of Coups.

Focusing on Bangladesh, this panel will explore the complex human rights, governance, and political challenges following the country’s recent sociopolitical upheavals and shifting power dynamics.

Bringing together leading voices from advocacy, academia, and policy, the panel will examine:

  • The implications of post-election governance for civil liberties and minority rights.
  • How historical and recent political transitions have shaped Bangladesh’s democratic trajectory.
  • Regional and international dimensions of human rights protection and democratic stability.

Speakers:

  • Mr. Paulo Casaca – Founder, South Asia Democratic Forum
  • Ms. Tasmiah Nuhiya Ahmed – Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh
  • Dr. Nasir Uddin – Visiting Scholar, Harvard University
  • Ms. Urmee Hossain – Senior Program Officer, Yunus Centre

What attendees can expect:

  • A critical conversation on the fragility and possibilities of democracy in South Asia.
  • Insights from legal, historical, and political perspectives.
  • A forum to engage with ongoing research and advocacy efforts linking local struggles to global governance challenges.

We invite scholars, students, practitioners, and all who are passionate about human rights and democratic participation to join this important dialogue.
